PREAMBLE

Christians often brush off the laws and moral pronouncements in the Bible as figurative. The Old Testament, they say, was only morally right for the Israelites. And the New Covenant, they claim, abolished the Old Testament laws anyway. This is not the case. Yahweh explicitly says the laws are not to be changed, and that they are so wise and just that all other societies will look on them with awe.

Deuteronomy 4:5-8 – "See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today?'"

Jesus agrees with God. He says he has not come to change the old laws but rather to teach others to uphold them:

Matthew 5:17-19 – "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

What follows is a sample of these great, just, and moral laws. Remember, Christians, according to the Bible you should look at these laws and say "surely this is a just and wise nation!" and teach others to follow them.

SLAVERY (See also Why does God love slavery?)

All of us know that slavery is abhorrent. Slavery involves the loss of free will and the subjugation of one person to another. Slavery is a form of imprisonment. Slavery turns human beings into a type of livestock that can be bought and sold as the property of another person. No human being would want to be enslaved. This is what makes the concept of slavery so repugnant. It is surprising, therefore, to find that God embraces slavery wholeheartedly. The Bible is so supportive of slavery, in fact, that it was frequently used as a justification for American slavery prior to the Civil War.

Exodus 21:20-21 – "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."

Colossians 3:22-24 – "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Ephesians 6:5 - "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ."

1 Peter 2:13 - "Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority."

1 Peter 2:18 - "Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh."

1 Timothy 6:1 - "1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered."

Some Christians claim that Biblical slaves are supposed to be released after six years, and therefore Biblical slavery is more just than our modern conception of slavery. This is not the case. The passage in question, Exodus 21:1-4, only refers to freeing Hebrew slaves. Foreign slaves are forever your property, to be passed down to your children (in contrast to Israelite slaves):

Leviticus 25:44-46 – Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Most troubling, God not only condones slavery, he COMMANDS you to enslave people who you conquer in the course of normal, non-holy warfare:

Deuteronomy 20:10-15 – When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city. When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies. This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.

WOMEN (See also Why is God such women hating sexist?)

In the ancient near east, women were considered the property of men. A daughter belonged to her father, until she was engaged to be married. At this point, the groom paid the girl's father a "brideprice"—usually slightly more than the cost of a slave—and in exchange, she became his property. Since daughters couldn't work or fight, they were considered less valuable than men, and so in practice the idea of a "brideprice," barbaric as it was, probably reduced the number of infanticides—it was common for parents to leave unwanted children (usually girls) out in the wilderness to die of exposure.

As one would expect from a book written by bronze-age Mesopotamian nomads, the Bible has the exact same view of women-as-property as the Code of Hammurabi and other near-eastern myths and legal codes. Adultery is conceived as a property crime and, like thievery, is punished by death:

Leviticus 20:10 - 'If a man commits adultery with another man's wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

If a man suspects his wife of adultery, he can force her to undertake a "trial by fire" where she drinks a magic potion that makes her barren if she is guilty. This is similar to the "trial by water" in the Code of Hammurabi where suspected adulteresses are thrown into a river to see if they float. (Note that there is no such test for men suspected of adultery, only women.)

Numbers 5:11-31 - "11 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man's wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him by sleeping with another man, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure—or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure- then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder offering to draw attention to guilt. 'The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the LORD. Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. After the priest has had the woman stand before the LORD, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, 'If no other man has slept with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have defiled yourself by sleeping with a man other than your husband' here the priest is to put the woman under this curse of the oath-'may the LORD cause your people to curse and denounce you when he causes your thigh to waste away and your abdomen to swell. May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells and your thigh wastes away.' Then the woman is to say, 'Amen. So be it.' The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water. He shall have the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water will enter her and cause bitter suffering. The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the LORD and bring it to the altar. The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. If she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, then when she is made to drink the water that brings a curse, it will go into her and cause bitter suffering; her abdomen will swell and her thigh waste away, and she will become accursed among her people. If, however, the woman has not defiled herself and is free from impurity, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children. This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and defiles herself while married to her husband, or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the LORD and is to apply this entire law to her. The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin."

Virgins fetched a higher bride price than non-virgins. As such, if a newlywed "misrepresents" her virginity—by failing to prove she is a virgin on her wedding night—God says she should be stoned to death on the doorstep of her father's house. (Note: no such law is found in the Code of Hammurabi.)

Deuteronomy 22:13-21 – If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity," then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate. The girl's father will say to the elders, "I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. Now he has slandered her and said, 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.' But here is the proof of my daughter's virginity." Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town, and the elders shall take the man and punish him. They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver a and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives. If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.

Rape is not punishable as a crime in the Bible. If a man rapes a married or betrothed woman, he is punished for the crime of adultery. If the victim fails to cry out loudly enough while she is raped, it is assumed that she is accomplice to adultery and she is killed as well.

Deuteronomy 22:23-27 - If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you. But if out in the country a man happens to meet a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. Do nothing to the girl; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders his neighbor, for the man found the girl out in the country, and though the betrothed girl screamed, there was no one to rescue her.

If a man rapes a virgin who is not betrothed—that is, who does not belong to another man—there is no punishment. The rapist pays his victim's father the bride price and marries her. He cannot divorce her (apparently God thought this was for the girl's benefit). Again, rape is not punished at all: this law essentially states, "you break it, you buy it."

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."

Note that the 50 shekels the rapist pays for his victim's bride price is half of what a man must pay to a woman's father if he unjustly slanders her virginity, per Deuteronomy 22:15. God felt that sullying a father's honor by accusing his daughter of having unmarried sex is worth twice as much monetary compensation as raping his daughter. Speaking of monetary values, God also makes it explicit that women are worth a little more than half as much as men:

Leviticus 27:2-7 - If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate persons to the LORD by giving equivalent values, set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel; and if it is a female, set her value at thirty shekels. If it is a person between the ages of five and twenty, set the value of a male at twenty shekels and of a female at ten shekels. If it is a person between one month and five years, set the value of a male at five shekels of silver and that of a female at three shekels of silver. If it is a person sixty years old or more, set the value of a male at fifteen shekels and of a female at ten shekels.

It should come as no surprise that women are considered so worthless from a legal perspective, as the theology of both the Old and New Testament supports their inherent worthlessness.

Genesis 3:16 - "To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.""

Genesis 19:4-8- "4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.' Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, 'No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.'"

1 Timothy 2:11-12 – "A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."

Matthew 25:1 - "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom."

1 Corinthians 11:3-10 - "Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, a since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head."

1 Corinthians 14:33-35 - "For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."

GOD DEMANDING MURDER

Exodus 35:2 – " For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death."

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 – "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid."

Leviticus 20:13 – "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Deuteronomy 25:11-12 – "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."

Deuteronomy 20:10-16 – "When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes."

Isaiah 13:13-16 – "Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, each will return to his own people, each will flee to his native land. Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives ravished."

Numbers 31:14-18 – "Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle. "Have you allowed all the women to live?" he asked them. "They were the ones who followed Balaam's advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the LORD in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

ABSURD

The following verse is absurd because it shows God hates handicapped people:

Leviticus 21:17-24 - "Say to Aaron: 'For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; no man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the offerings made to the LORD by fire. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.' " So Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.

The following verse is absurd because it shows that God is the willful author of a massive, world-wide Holocaust:

Genesis 6:6-7 - "The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.""

The following verse is absurd because Jesus tells us that we must hate everyone if we want to follow him:

Luke 14:26 – " If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple."

The following passage is absurd because it shows God doesn't understand genetics:

Genesis 30:37-39 - "Jacob, however, took fresh-cut branches from poplar, almond and plane trees and made white stripes on them by peeling the bark and exposing the white inner wood of the branches. Then he placed the peeled branches in all the watering troughs, so that they would be directly in front of the flocks when they came to drink. When the flocks were in heat and came to drink, they mated in front of the branches. And they bore young that were streaked or speckled or spotted."

KILLING CHILDREN (See also Why does God massacre millions of children?)

Exodus 12:28-30 - "The Israelites did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron. At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead."

Isaiah 13:15-18 - "Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives ravished. See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold. Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants nor will they look with compassion on children."

Jeremiah 49:20-21 - " Therefore, hear what the LORD has planned against Edom, what he has purposed against those who live in Teman: The young of the flock will be dragged away; he will completely destroy their pasture because of them. At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble; their cry will resound to the Red Sea."

Hosea 13:16 - "The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open."

Deuteronomy 3:1-7 - "Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei. 2 The LORD said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have handed him over to you with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon." 3 So the LORD our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down, leaving no survivors. 4 At that time we took all his cities. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages. 6 We completely destroyed them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying every city—men, women and children. 7 But all the livestock and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves." (They massacred all the men, women and children in 60 cities at God's request.)

SACRIFICE (See also Why does God love animal sacrifice?)

There is no need to beat around the bush: We all know, without question, that animal sacrifice is an absurdity. Sacrificing and burning an animal on an altar does not have any effect on events in our world. But then we examine the Bible — the holy word of God and the single authoritative source of all information about Jesus — and find passages like these:

Leviticus 1 - "The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting. He said, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When any of you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. " 'If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to offer a male without defect. He must present it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting so that it a will be acceptable to the LORD. He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. He is to slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and then Aaron's sons the priests shall bring the blood and sprinkle it against the altar on all sides at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. He is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. Then Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the burning wood that is on the altar. He is to wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. " 'If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, he is to offer a male without defect. He is to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle its blood against the altar on all sides. He is to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the burning wood that is on the altar. He is to wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and the priest is to bring all of it and burn it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. " 'If the offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, he is to offer a dove or a young pigeon. The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. He is to remove the crop with its contents b and throw it to the east side of the altar, where the ashes are. He shall tear it open by the wings, not severing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD."

Leviticus 8:14-24 - "He then presented the bull for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Moses slaughtered the bull and took some of the blood, and with his finger he put it on all the horns of the altar to purify the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. So he consecrated it to make atonement for it. Moses also took all the fat around the inner parts, the covering of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it on the altar. But the bull with its hide and its flesh and its offal he burned up outside the camp, as the LORD commanded Moses. He then presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Then Moses slaughtered the ram and sprinkled the blood against the altar on all sides. He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces and the fat. He washed the inner parts and the legs with water and burned the whole ram on the altar as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire, as the LORD commanded Moses. He then presented the other ram, the ram for the ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron's right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot. Moses also brought Aaron's sons forward and put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he sprinkled blood against the altar on all sides."

Leviticus 7:28-34 - "The LORD said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites: 'Anyone who brings a fellowship offering to the LORD is to bring part of it as his sacrifice to the LORD. With his own hands he is to bring the offering made to the LORD by fire; he is to bring the fat, together with the breast, and wave the breast before the LORD as a wave offering. The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons. You are to give the right thigh of your fellowship offerings to the priest as a contribution. The son of Aaron who offers the blood and the fat of the fellowship offering shall have the right thigh as his share. From the fellowship offerings of the Israelites, I have taken the breast that is waved and the thigh that is presented and have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons as their regular share from the Israelites.' ""

KILLING, TORTURING NON-BELIEVERS

The Evil Bible is clear — people who do not believe in God and Jesus are to be killed and/or tortured:

Deuteronomy 17:2-5 - "If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant, and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death."

Deuteronomy 17:12 - "Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the Lord your God must die. In this way you will purge the evil from Israel."

2 Chronicles 15:12-13 - "They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman."

Deuteronomy 13:12-19 - "If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known), then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, a both its people and its livestock. Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. It is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt. None of those condemned things b shall be found in your hands, so that the LORD will turn from his fierce anger; he will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as he promised on oath to your forefathers, because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in his eyes."

Deuteronomy 13:6-11 - "If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again."

Leviticus 24:13-16 - "Then the LORD said to Moses: "Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. Say to the Israelites: 'If anyone curses his God, he will be held responsible; anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death."

Exodus 22:20 - "Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed."

1 Corinthians 16:22 - "If anyone does not love the Lord—a curse be on him."

Mark 16:14-16 - "Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."

Revelation 9:1-6 - "The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them."

Revelation 21:1-8 - "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." "

DISGUSTING

1 Samuel 18:25-27 - "Saul replied, "Say to David, 'The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies.' "Saul's plan was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines. When the attendants told David these things, he was pleased to become the king's son-in-law. So before the allotted time elapsed, David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented the full number to the king so that he might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage."

Ezekiel 23:11-21 - "Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet in her lust and prostitution she was more depraved than her sister. She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and commanders, warriors in full dress, mounted horsemen, all handsome young men. I saw that she too defiled herself; both of them went the same way. But she carried her prostitution still further. She saw men portrayed on a wall, figures of Chaldeans a portrayed in red, with belts around their waists and flowing turbans on their heads; all of them looked like Babylonian chariot officers, natives of Chaldea. b As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust. When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled."

Judges 3:15-23 - "Again the Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a foot and a half long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing. He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man. After Ehud had presented the tribute, he sent on their way the men who had carried it. At the idols near Gilgal he himself turned back and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." The king said, "Quiet!" And all his attendants left him. Ehud then approached him while he was sitting alone in the upper room of his summer palace and said, "I have a message from God for you." As the king rose from his seat, Ehud reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king's belly. Even the handle sank in after the blade, which came out his back. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it. Then Ehud went out to the porch ; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them."

Judges 4:21 - "But Jael, Heber's wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died."

Psalm 58:10 - The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.

Genesis 19:30-36 - "Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father." That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father."

Judges 19:25-30 - "But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, "Get up; let's go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home. When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel. Everyone who saw it said, "Such a thing has never been seen or done, not since the day the Israelites came up out of Egypt. Think about it! Consider it! Tell us what to do!""

Joshua 10:22-26 - "Joshua said, "Open the mouth of the cave and bring those five kings out to me." So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon. When they had brought these kings to Joshua, he summoned all the men of Israel and said to the army commanders who had come with him, "Come here and put your feet on the necks of these kings." So they came forward and placed their feet on their necks. Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies you are going to fight." Then Joshua struck and killed the kings and hung them on five trees, and they were left hanging on the trees until evening."

Matthew 5:29-30 - "If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."

2 Chronicles 21:18-19 - "After all this, the LORD afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels. In the course of time, at the end of the second year, his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great pain. His people made no fire in his honor, as they had for his fathers."

2 Kings 9:33-35 - "Throw her down!" Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot. Jehu went in and ate and drank. "Take care of that cursed woman," he said, "and bury her, for she was a king's daughter." But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands."

Numbers 25:1-9 - "While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate and bowed down before these gods. So Israel joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. And the LORD's anger burned against them. The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD's fierce anger may turn away from Israel." So Moses said to Israel's judges, "Each of you must put to death those of your men who have joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor." Then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear through both of them—through the Israelite and into the woman's body. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped; but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000."

Judges 9:51-54 - "Inside the city, however, was a strong tower, to which all the men and women—all the people of the city—fled. They locked themselves in and climbed up on the tower roof. Abimelech went to the tower and stormed it. But as he approached the entrance to the tower to set it on fire, a woman dropped an upper millstone on his head and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, "Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say, 'A woman killed him.' " So his servant ran him through, and he died."

Psalms 137:8-9 - O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.

Genesis 38:8-10 - "Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also."

 And I use to carry a copy of the Bible in my car, reading it on my lunch time trying to resolve in my own self, how it just never spoke to me. I adored Sunday school, because that section of the church was carpentered into a replica of the Ark. Lovely animals painted on the walls, as if we were all having class right in the middle of one of the decks together. Very inviting it was.

But in Sunday school, they don't go through the verses like these. They kiddie it all up, with cartoonish Bible characters like Moses, Elisha, David, and all the rest. And they don't talk to us about the disgusting and the evil parts of the Bible. They made it sound like God was a super hero in a comic book. And he and his chosen one's , like us of course, were fighting against evil.

Only later, when I graduated Sunday school, did I enter the main church. And that's where all the cartoons disappeared and all that seemed like a lovely fairy tale, but was so true, vanished. It just never felt right. That God would be so angry.

Thank you for this post. Lengthy, but the video and the passages I've read thus far, put it all into perspective. I know now why I kept searching those pages, trying to make sense of the confusion in them. It simply isn't real. It's man, with a very twisted understanding of what it means to be sacred. :hmm:

It puts "Fundamentalist" christian into perspective. Christians I've spoken with often claim the old testament doesn't count today, since jesus came to fulfill the law. But as we saw in another post here jesus didn't fulfill the law as if it can be set aside now. He came to insure the law was upheld by being the messiah promised to come and set the world and gods kingdom aright. And the god that sent himself as jesus, or not depending on which part of the new testament you read, did all those things described in the OP. So as to install himself as the supreme being of all the worlds people.

It's interesting, in that many christians disavow the old testament as ancient history that shouldn't color todays faith. And they do the same when the bloody intolerant bigoted history of the church exacted it's history by slaughtering unbelievers in the name of the bible and the faith's decree. Some going so far as to say the faith never committed the crusades, the inquisition, and even modern world atrocities.

And yet, how did christianity, a religion just over 2000 years of age, that stole from the jews to make itself alive as the new testament of the jews promised messiah that they themselves denied in that day, become the predominant religion in 2007!? Amid a world population of over 6 billion wherein at least 2 billion are said to be christian? If they didn't destroy the older faiths extant long before christinaity!? Destroyed the faith, by destroying the people, the temples, the sacred sites and the sacred texts. And when pagan traditions are oral, what better to insure that is wiped out than to kill those that speak of it and keep it alive as a surviving oral tradition!?

The bible is god's own worst proof that he is evil. And the world landscape dotted with temples to him, stand upon the bodies of the religious faithful of the past, that this supposed god of love, ordained be murdered, so as to install his kingdom on Earth. Every church is a grave stone, for the god of the dead. Because christianity is a blood and death cult. There's no love in that. There's just monotheism, exclusivism, arrogance and intolerance. And that isn't faith. That's evil, for a fact.

Thanks for that post. :tu:

I only knew a tiny amount of that and already thought the bible was a bloody awful. After reading those snippets I felt like throwing up. I am so disgusted... so very, very disgusted.

How? How can people follow this crazy evil book and preach love and peace? Are they completely out of their minds? What the hell do they think they are doing?

QUOTE

"No man ever believes that the evil bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means." - George Bernard Shaw

I'll tell you what some are doing. I've read them do it, in fact. They excuse it as a matter of context! They claim what amounts to the reader needs a language arts degree and the entire Vatican library of archaic language texts, so as to understand what so clearly says, god kills. Because it really doesn't say what it says on the page. In ancient Greek, Latin, Aramaic, Hebrew, etc...

But what is impossible to get through to people like that, is the bible they read, as the King James version was the 17th century translation into English language, from all those archaic texts. So when those ancient translators took what was the scriptures that came before them to be ultimately transcribed into King's version, they being learned men, knew exactly what they were saying when they put it on the page.

So what today depicts a terrorist in heaven, is exactly what those transcribers meant to say in English language, from the original. But the redundant part of the whole thing is, that same bible claims not one word can be changed. Not added or taken away from what was "gods breath". The holy "words" of god, inspired to sinful mankind.

I'm amazed they left that in, but they did so so that that King James would be the definitive copy forever and ever. Now, in 2007 there are over 50 interpretations. Imagine that one, for those context hounds that simply refuse to face facts. God is evil. And that is said in that self same bible, but for them, it's context! Con-text, is absolutely right.

So the untouchable, not one word to be taken away or added, was violated on it's face, when that "version"was created. But that admonition was actually intended to command the monarchs version stand forever.

Apologists simply can't face they worship evil, as god.

Even when god "says" so himself.

For instance, hell. Did you know there are some that now say hell is not fire and brimstone?! Bible says so. Newbies say, no way. Hell is actually meant to be interpreted as removed from gods sight forever.

BUT! Sin, removed us from god's sight already. Even after jesus sin still exists . Even though he allegedly came to take sin from the world with his execution, sin is still a factor. Nice sacrifice. Worked, not at all. Still, sin.

Oopsie!

The other excuse apologists make is, especially with no respect for the hell defined in the bible as torment, fire and brimstone, etc... weeping, wailing gnashing of teeth, is "It's not church doctrine!" Which church?

I had one apologist, who was famous among those that didn't know, as someone that knew his bible. But for those that did know, he was something else. He would copy and paste from apologist websites, edit to add his own "version" :P of text to make it not so easy to find in a search, and then post it as his own "learned" understanding that they were wrong! And context was a big factor for this one. It was a riot. Well, he attempted to claim that burning hell was not church doctrine. That it was not really ever fire and brimstone. And then he made a mistake. He said hell was some archaic word for a place in old Palestine called, Sheol. A place where they burned garbage and the bodies of dead peasants. And in the King James Sheol was interpreted as Hell.

Now, think about this. Sheol, place where they burn bodies and garbage. Hell! Burning place, right?! Now, if jesus related in parables Sheol, to the natives of Palestine, in the context they could understand , about damnation and removal from gods' sight, which isn't possible because that same bible says god lives in hell too, wouldn't him speaking of Sheol, where they knew bodies burned, be analogous for the hell he was trying to communicate to them if they died in sin!?

Makes sense, right?! No! For that apologist, that was a "red herring". It's all a matter of context. So no, that's wrong. Hell is removal from gods sight, not a flaming pit of suffering.

Suffice to say, the bible is a terrorist manual for the weak. If you know where to look, you'll learn this: God is satan. He creates evil and the good. Jesus is lucifer and jesus was god incarnate. (or not, depending on which one of the errant scriptures you read). And God lives in heaven and in hell, so say the Psalms.

So, what is a believer living for!?What are they worshiping!? How is it possible to be damned to hell, which means removal from gods sight, if god is in hell as well as heaven!? And how is it possible to anger god with our sin, when god is the sin?! So says god's breath!?

These are all red herrings, matters of context and subject to at least 4 different language translations to fully understand. If you are someone that stands with an iron spine and claims the bible is the word of god, and then claim, but that he doesn't really mean what it says.

Yes it does!

Absolutely. In fact it means what it says so much, that after deviant King James authorized it to be published, they slaughtered people for not believing every word, as written was absolutely irrefutably true! And to not believe every word, was heresy, and made one subject to execution.

Those bible verses prove, if you worship that evil man made god, you worship evil that lives in hell in your mind. So as a sinner, you're already in gods grace. Because god is sin.

That is some kind of "good news" (Greek, "Gospel") huh!? ;)
